Another Way to Fight Mischief on Facebook

As Facebook’s popularity has soared, it has become an attractive place for spam, scams and malware. And while Facebook is often quick to remove such mischief, a tool for protecting profiles would be useful to many people.

Enter Defensio, which was created to keep user-generated dross off blogs and corporate Web sites, but has been available in a beta version for Facebook users since January. It is free to anyone with a Facebook profile, and more than 10,000 people are using it, according to Websense, the Web-filtering software firm that acquired Defensio in January 2009. Refriending on FaceBook After a Block

Q. If I block a friend on Facebook, but make up with her later and take her name off the Block list, why doesn’t she show up in my Friends list?

A. Blocking a Facebook friend is an extreme measure and often used to stop stalking or harassing behavior. When a user puts someone on the Block list, the blocked person cannot see the user’s profile page, but she may be able to see activities in some third-party applications on Facebook.
